Nobody Actually Wants Off-The-Shelf Software

A buddy sent me EmDash, Cloudflare’s new CMS, and said we could all stop arguing now. I zoomed in on the first screenshot and got instant WordPress PTSD. It’s not a knock on Cloudflare, but it got me saying something I genuinely believe: everyone wants software built around how they actually work, and only two things ever stopped them. They couldn’t build it, or they wouldn’t pay someone to.

I get into why that’s changed, why I think a huge chunk of SaaS could go away, the catch when you try to sell custom work (people can’t picture it until you prototype it for them), and the one honest limit left, which is infrastructure.
