Cline
Open-source coding agent for VS Code. Works with cloud models or local models running on your own machine.
Claude Code is my main driver and Codex is my backup. One day I got thinking about local models, and what I wanted was a way to run one without leaving VS Code. I keep my AIOS open there all day, so the idea was to pop into whichever harness I want, with whichever model, depending on what’s up and what’s down.
That’s what Cline does for me. It sits in VS Code next to the other two, works on the same files, and points at a model running on my own computer through LM Studio. Two frontier harnesses with their models, plus a local one, all in the exact same environment. I never have to move.
Honestly, as of writing this it’s a backup to a backup. On my PC it’s way slower than Claude Code, and the experience is a step backwards from what I’m used to. But it works, the model runs on my own machine, and it doesn’t care whether the internet or anybody’s API is up.
