Social Stream Ninja

When I switched back to OBS for livestreaming, I lost the one thing I really liked about Restream’s browser-based studio: the integrated chat overlay where I could click a message and feature it on screen. I tried a couple of different solutions and none of them worked well. Then I found Social Stream Ninja.

It can do a lot more than what I use it for. It consolidates live chat from over 100 platforms, relays messages between them, has bot commands, text-to-speech, polls, mini-games, AI moderation. I’m really only using one piece of it: the featured chat overlay for YouTube in OBS.

Setting it up wasn’t the smoothest experience. The UI isn’t incredible. It’s a free, open-source product, so you’re not getting polished UX everywhere. I actually tried it once right when I switched to OBS and kind of bounced off it. Then I found a couple of good YouTube tutorials that walked through the setup properly, and after that it clicked. Once it’s configured, the output is genuinely good. You can see it on my livestreams now.

This solved the one thing I was missing after dropping Restream. Now I’m streaming in 4K directly to YouTube through OBS, I have chat on screen, and I’m recording in the same environment. The whole setup is better than what I had before, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it ended up working.
