ElevenLabs
AI platform for voice cloning, text-to-speech, voice agents, and audio generation.
I’ve heard about ElevenLabs for a few years now, and the platform has obviously gotten a lot more robust over time. There’s a ton packed in there at this point. People use it for voice cloning, text to speech, voice agents, and all sorts of other things. I’ve used it for a couple of things and I want to use it for more. I’m tempted to clone my voice for more stuff, though I don’t want to go fully AI on everything. I’m thinking about pairing it with HeyGen at some point soon, I just haven’t had the chance yet.
So far I’ve used it for two specific things. The first is music generation. That little bit of music at the start of the Fueled By Progress podcast was actually generated with AI through ElevenLabs, it’s not a real song, which is a cool little detail. I’ve also used the API to turn lyrics into a song, which is pretty impressive. The second is cloning my voice. You can hear it on my story page, where you can listen to my story narrated in my own voice. As of writing this I still need to redo it with the professional voice clone instead of the instant one. It is a little annoying that you have to be on a higher plan to get professional voice cloning, but I get why.
None of what I’ve tried has been hugely economically impactful yet, but here’s the real takeaway. In the AI audio and voice space, ElevenLabs is the best marketed and genuinely the most robust from everything I’ve tried and seen. I’m sure it has shortcomings, but there’s a lot you can do even on the free tier. If you need to do anything around voice or audio generation, I’d start here. It’s kind of like Wispr Flow, the one that stands out when you think of the category. That doesn’t always mean it’s the absolute best, but it’s a great place to start, and if it gets too expensive or doesn’t fit what you need, you can always branch out from there.
