Shure MV7+
Dynamic podcast microphone with USB-C and XLR. Built-in DSP, LED strip, and OBS certified.
Before this, I had a HyperX QuadCast condenser mic, and it was fine, but it was the wrong type of microphone for what I was doing. If you’re reading this and looking for a microphone, please just get a dynamic mic and put it close to your mouth. Don’t get a condenser. Don’t cheap out on a Blue Yeti or some Snowball. They suck compared to this for maybe twice the money.
I’m so glad I bought this Shure. I got the white one, which contrasts nicely against my setup. The fact that it has both USB-C and XLR is cool, but honestly, I don’t think you need XLR anymore for most use cases. The USB audio on this mic is so good that adding an audio interface feels unnecessary. Just talk into the thing.
I turn off all the LED lights on the mic when I’m filming because I don’t want anything distracting in the shot. The light strip is a cool feature, but if you’re on camera, you probably want it off too. If I was going to upgrade, I’d still get a Shure with USB. I probably wouldn’t even bother with the SM7B anymore. Shure is just the best brand for audio, and this mic has been incredible.
