Keychron Q3 HE
Wireless mechanical keyboard with hall effect switches and QMK/VIA support.
This is my third Keychron. The first was low profile with tactile switches. Low profile was a cool concept, but the sound just can’t compare to full-size keycaps. I don’t need a wrist rest either, so low profile was solving a problem I didn’t have. The second was full profile, also tactile, and I got really tired of that after a while.
This one has hall effect switches, which you can adjust for different actuation points. I don’t really do that since it’s more of a gaming feature, but the sound and feel are great. The red, black, and white color scheme was kind of an accident, but it ended up being perfect. I love the knob for media controls, and I don’t miss having a number pad at all. The tenkeyless layout gives me more desk space without feeling cramped.
The body is metal, so it’s solid and doesn’t move around on you. I’m not a keyboard expert, but I watched a lot of keyboard videos when I was figuring this out, and I’d had good experiences with Keychron already. My one gripe: if you’re going to manufacture a keyboard with RGB lighting, give me see-through keycaps. The lights blind you from below but you can’t see what key you’re pressing. I could buy different keycaps, but that feels like something that should be right out of the box.
